Springtime is here?

Spring is returning day by day. This past week has was unseasonably warm. The a.m. crust morphs into slush. Bikers are out on the Kelly Road. People are skiing in teeshirts. Along with the inch of snow which has been accumulating on our Cottonwood this morning, we had 25 Gray Crowned Rosy Finches visiting. The Robins will be back soon.
Things I love about spring:
1. Seeing soil for the first time in 5 months. Places disappear and reemerge. I reintroduce myself to the most common pieces of earth with new eyes. At the same time I find myself connecting with my old self. This is fun.
2. The most abundant animal species on Earth is spotted literally everywhere. The springtails, or snow fleas, are basking in the sun. On my run around the Highlands loop (Well it was almost all the way around- I ran into a Bison half way around the loop and had to turn back. The bison are migrating off the refuge!) they blanketed the road.
3. Hearing Red Winged Blackbirds. If I close my eyes I can return to the Keene Cemetery. The males are back, preparing nests and scoping out their territory.
4. Maple syrup
5. The realization that although I do not have seasonal affective disorder, the sun makes me a much happier person.
