Today was a typical but wonderful Monday at home in the Haspela house. Hazel and I spent the early morning picking up from the weekend and getting ready for the week. Some of Hazel's favorite family chores are sweeping, putting things in and out of the dishwasher, running away from the vacuum, putting away laundry, stirring the cookie or bread dough, wearing my one pair of fancy shoes around the house and any jewelry she can find, opening and closing the washing machine door, spilling and wiping up her juice. Today her favorite chore was definitely scooping out cookie dough and placing the mounds of gooey goodness on to the cookie sheet.
In the video you will also notice her love of babies lately. She loves to rock her baby, sing to her baby, wrap her baby in a blanket. Her favorite baby seems to be the tiny dollhouse baby. Today I was able to capture a little bit of this magic before she noticed I was video recording.
Drawing and painting are two of her other favorite past times. Most days she draws on paper but she has been known to decorate a few items around the house. Oddly enough she really enjoys drawing with a sharp pencil and will spend a good amount of time just drawing tiny little circles and loops. It is truly unusual. She holds the pencil like Kevin and I do and seems to have total control over it. We have no idea what this means about her personality but we find it fascinating.
Our adventure for the day was biking to Post Canyon trail and spending 30 minutes wandering about 300 yards down a wooded trail. It was a perfect distance for a little explorer. It was nice to have the opportunity to go at Hazel's exact pace. Too often I feel like I am rushing Hazel to keep up with one of her buddies or some silly schedule. Today we were on Hazel time and it was fantastic!
Hazel has been loving going on bike rides lately. She brings my helmet to me in anticipation of the ride. I love the giggles she lets loose every time we hit a slight bump in the road. Today, we passed many dogs, a llama, cows, and a horse en route to the hike.
Exploring the trail with Hazel was a delight. I love the excitement with which she approaches every little hill, rock, and root on the path. We went up and down a couple of hills two or three times. She quickly discovered the thrill of walking off trail and jumping off of moss covered rocks. We shared a peaceful moment petting the moss on a tree together and digging in the dirt for many exciting discoveries (fresh shoots, decayed acorns, sprouting maple seeds).
We made it home just in time for Hazel to eat some lunch and crash for a 3 HOUR nap. I have an amazing napper on my hands. It has been heavenly lately. Last week she took a 4 hour nap. Most days she takes a 2 hour afternoon nap. I've been enjoying this time to get some work done, read a book, or nap too. Woohoo!
Enjoy the super long video. The lengthy footage is for the New York Haspela clan.
