Anniversary

7:30am, Oct 8, 2007.

Hot coffee, a fire in the wood stove, Laura is still sleeping, the Red Sox won division series, I'm takng today off. Life is good.

Yesterday was our first anniversary! So we've always wanted to go to the Wind River Mts and tried for a 3 night getaway. Mother Nature encouraged us to rethink it, and we spent the first night in the back of the truck, the second day trail running and exploring around Big Sandy Lake, and the 2nd night back in our cozy dry cabin in Kelly. Despite a shortened trip, it was a blast and a great anniversary celebration. A highlight was sipping sparkling apple cider and toasting to our 1st year together while eating stuffing, quick mashed potatoes, and canned chicken in the back of the pickup. The snow pelted the roof of the truck and our makeshift tarp shelter, but we were snug in our down and sleeping bags, reading the atlas and dreaming of our future together.

Yesterday was our first snow of the year! 2 inches stuck on the valley floor. We spent the morning on a slow walk around the Beaver Loop. The afternoon we went up Open Canyon (past Phelps lake south of Death Canyon) a ways and then hurried home for a dinner at the Snake River Grill. Anniversaries are great!
